Time flies at the speed of angel wings but does not fly backward. Forward only, time marches on and stops for no one. Yesterday, I was eighteen, and today I am sixty-one and remember the path that time created but vaguely. It seems the country-western singer Kenny Chesney explains my predicament best. His words are simple, "Don't blink."
Perhaps you suffer the same calamity of time marching by too quickly. If so, you know well that time manages us when we do not manage time. Therefore, let me offer some advice from God's word.
1.) Life in this world is finite. As the Psalmist says, "Your days are numbered." It makes sense that there is a little voice in your head instructing you to get the most out of this life because it will NOT last as long as you hope. The little voice in your head shouting, "You are not forever," is there to tell you to take care of eternity. Take care of eternity NOW!
Psalm 90:12 Teach us to number our days so that we may gain a heart of wisdom.
2.) Speaking of eternity, though your days on earth are finite – you are not. The writer of Ecclesiastes describes the reality of eternity like this. It is written on your heart. A voice inside your head/heart confirms eternity and drives us to do what we must to participate in eternal life. How you spend your time in this life will lead you to or away from the one who controls eternity. Jesus Christ
Ecclesiastes 3:11 Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but people cannot see the whole scope of God's work from beginning to end.
3.) Put first things first. You were created for a singular purpose. You were made to bring glory to God. Focus on bringing glory to God; as you do, a sense of joy, happiness, and purpose will flood your life. Think of it this way: when you put first things first, everything that you do will be time well spent.
Colossians 3:17 Whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
4.) This is your last day. Tomorrow is only found in the calendar of fools. Certain things can't wait. For example, tell your loved ones that you love them today. You might not have a tomorrow.
Proverbs 27:1 Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring.
5.) Make time for God – every day. There is no time management more important than making time for God.
Psalm 55:16-17 But I will call on God, and the LORD will rescue me. Morning, noon, and night, I cry out in my distress, and the LORD hears my voice.
Time flies at the speed of an angel's wings. Please make the most of it, and always remember this. When we have done all things right, it puts a smile on God's face. When you have done ALL THINGS WRONG, God is still smiling as he opens the resources of heaven to come to the aid of his people.
Have a great week.
