How old were you when you first noticed the Words of Institution during worship? At what age were you allowed or invited to receive this sacrament? Martin Luther wrote in his small catechism that Holy Communion is, "the true body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ under the bread and wine, instituted by Christ Himself for us Christians to eat and to drink." We celebrate Christ's presence among us in this meal as Jesus celebrated the Last Supper with his disciples and do it in remembrance of him as he commanded. Luther also wrote, "a person is truly worthy and well prepared to receive this gift of grace who has faith in these words: 'Given and shed for you for the forgiveness of sins.'”
First Communion classes are offered in Martin's sanctuary on Wednesday, April 9th at 7:45pm after our Holden Evening Prayer Worship and Sunday, April 13th at 10:30am following morning worship. The pastors will give 45 minutes of teaching and instruction about this sacrament and prepare participants to receive First Communion during 7pm worship on Maundy Thursday, April 17th. Families choose when their children are ready to sign up for a class. Let the church office know which one date of class instruction you plan to attend.
