Power in the Word.

Wouldn’t it be great if every word you spoke sprang into action when it left your lips? Imagine walking into your home, surveying the pile of dishes stacked high in the sink, and simply saying, “Clean dishes.” And instantly, they are gleaming, spotless, and stacked neatly in the cupboard. Or picture looking out at the unharvested field and saying, “Harvested grain,” and the barn is suddenly filled to the brim with golden stalks. Or how about this: you glance at your living room, littered with crumbs and toys, and declare, “Vacuumed floor,” and voila! The carpet looks like it belongs in the pages of a home magazine. Wouldn’t that be great?

And maybe it’s not the dishes or the vacuum that comes to mind for you. Perhaps it’s your children—or your grandchildren. Oh, wouldn’t it be something if you could say, “Do your chores,” and they were done? Or how about this: “Could we show a little gratitude around here?” And suddenly, little voices rise in harmony—“Thank you for the amazing supper!” “You’re the best mom ever!” “Grandma, you’re my hero!”

Yes, we laugh at the thought. Words that powerful seem too good to be true. But what if I told you that there is a word like that? A word that never falls flat and never fades into the air unheard or unheeded. A word that never fails to accomplish what it sets out to do. That is precisely what God’s Word is like. Listen to what God tells us through the prophet Isaiah:

“For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return there until they have watered the earth,

making it bring forth and sprout,

giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater,

so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth;

it shall not return to me empty,

but it shall accomplish that which I purpose,

and succeed in the thing for which I sent it.”

What a promise! What a picture of power! God’s Word isn’t just ink on a page. It’s not just sound waves vibrating through the air. God’s Word is action. When God speaks, things happen.

Think about it. Go back to the very beginning. When God created the heavens and the earth, how did He do it? Did He roll up His sleeves, grab a toolbox, and hammer away? Did He gather raw materials, mixing and molding them into place? No. God simply spoke.

  • “Let there be light.” And there was light.

  • “Let the waters gather into one place.” And it was so.

  • “Let the earth bring forth vegetation.” And suddenly, the world was green with life.

Every time God spoke, His Word brought something new into being. It was immediate. It was effective. It was unstoppable.

And here in Isaiah, we are reminded that God’s Word hasn’t lost an ounce of that power. Like rain falling from the heavens, God’s Word accomplishes precisely what it was sent to do. Just as rain nourishes the earth, causing it to bring forth crops and fruit, God’s Word nurtures, restores, and fulfills His purpose.

When you feel weak, remember: His Word strengthens. When you feel uncertain, remember: His Word guides. When you feel overwhelmed, remember: His Word brings peace.

And here’s the best part: His Word is still creating, transforming, and fulfilling His purposes today.

So open your heart to His Word. Let it rain down on you. And trust that it will do precisely what God has promised—it will never return empty. Amen.

Have a Great Week!
